Similarly, their bonds with the protagonist group is the first taste of friendship, so they cherish them closely. As a result of their service to evil figures in their world, both are ashamed of their past and see their current actions as necessary in righting their wrongs and becoming better people. They are calm and polite (though very introverted), but have something of a ferocity to them in combat.
Experiencing kindness and companionship for the first time, both would join a group (The Joestar Group and Spirits & Such Consultation Office) wherein they would finally find the friends that had been absent from their lives to that point. After fighting against a reserved, black-haired boy who has immense spiritual power and also wears his school uniform everywhere (Shigeo Kageyama and Jotaro Kujo), they would be freed from this figures influence and fight back against him and his forces. After crossing paths with an immensely narcissistic, manipulative and powerful villain who was hellbent on ruling the world and whom surprisingly shared their abilities (DIO and Toichiro Suzuki), they would be manipulated (Kakyoin through brainwashing, Serizawa through sweet-talking) into serving them. This time in their lives imparted both with a deep sense of loneliness and isolation that would continue to linger upon them well into their later years. However, this power would lead both to become incredibly distant from their peers, believing that their possession of this power made them incompatible with friendship and intimacy. Both developed spiritual, aura-based powers from a young age (Stands and Psychic Powers).
